Moonstone

It is one of my favorite peony! The full double, rose-type blooms take off blush and fade to pristine white without losing that wonderful symmetry. Side buds add effect opening later with more colour on them than the advanced main blooms. Top all this with a delicate odor. Truly enchanting!  Nicely contrasting reddish stems with very healthy and slightly upward and pointy leaves. The leaf parts are spread out a bit more than average for lactiflora peonies and this gives the whole bush a very open appearance. "Moonstone" received the APS Gold Medal in 1959. At that time already recognized for its superb qualities and it’s a mystery to me why this true masterpiece has been so difficult to find offered for all this time.
